Healthy Ireland is a major Government-led programme which aims to encourage and support everyone living in Ireland to have the best possible physical and mental health and wellbeing.
Our health is our most important asset, and we can all take some steps to improve our own health and wellbeing.
Healthy Ireland is here to help you make those positive changes and choices, to provide information and connect you with resources and organisations across the country, so you can get involved in the national effort to create a healthier Ireland.
Small changes can make a big difference to your physical and mental health and wellbeing.
We can all make positive choices such as eating healthier, being more active or minding our mental health. Click below to find more information on some small steps that can make a big difference:

Healthy Ireland Vision and Goals
The vision of Healthy Ireland is of a country “where everyone can enjoy physical and mental health and wellbeing to their full potential, where wellbeing is valued and supported at every level of society and is everyone’s responsibility”.
Healthy Ireland has four high-level goals to help achieve this vision:
- Increase the proportion of the people who are healthy at all stages of life
- Reduce health inequalities
- Protect the public from threats to health and wellbeing
- Create an environment where every individual and sector of society can play their part in achieving a healthy Ireland
Healthy Ireland recognizes that there are many factors, or determinants, which can influence a person’s health and wellbeing, and acknowledges that good health is not evenly distributed across Irish society.
The circumstances in which people are born, grow, live, work and age all impact on their health, as well as the individual choices people make about how to live.
It is important that all people living in Ireland, regardless of their differing circumstances, can be part of, and benefit from, a healthier Ireland.
Therefore a partnership approach, across Government and all sectors of society, is needed to make Ireland a healthier place to live, work and play.
Healthy Ireland: A Framework for Improved Health and Wellbeing (2013-2025) takes a whole-of-Government and whole-of-society approach to improving health and wellbeing and the quality of people’s lives.
The Healthy Ireland Survey is an annual survey of the health and wellbeing of the population, furnishing data which provide an up-to-date picture of the nation’s health. This data is used to support the development and implementation of a number of policies and plans under the Healthy Ireland Framework.
