John Kelly is the Chief Labour Inspector and Director of Inspection, Enforcement, Information & Customer Services Division. The aim of the division is to achieve a culture of compliance with basic employment standards.
The Division comprises of two distinct areas. The Information and Customer Services Unit provide information on employment rights, employment permits, industrial relations and employment equality matters. They also process and acknowledge all complaints for hearing by WRC adjudicators and the Labour Court. The Unit issues Employment Agency Licences, and Licences under the Protection of Young Persons legislation (Child licences).
The Inspection and Enforcement Unit carry out inspections to monitor compliance with labour and employment permits laws. They will work with employers to achieve compliance but will where necessary enforce the legislation through prosecutions. The inspectors work jointly with other regulatory/enforcement agencies both in Ireland and abroad.
