These Regulations provide for the exemption from planning system of the replacement of broadleaf high forest with conifer species in areas less than 10 hectares (other than a city, a town or other specified areas), even where Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) or Appropriate Assessment (AA) is required. The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Marine will act as the single consenting authority, with EIA/and /or AA carried out pursuant to licensing processes under Section 6 of the Forestry Act 2014.
