The Climate Action Plan 2021 (CAP21) envisages the public sector leading by example on climate action to reach the target of reducing Ireland’s greenhouse gas emissions by 51% by 2030 and becoming climate neutral no later than 2050.
To support public sector bodies leading by example, a Public Sector Climate Action Mandate now applies to public bodies covered by the CAP21 decarbonisation targets, with the exception of except for local authorities, commercial semi state bodies, and schools.
The Public Sector Climate Action Mandate was published in CAP24. The mandate requires public sector bodies to show leadership in climate action and to demonstrate how they are taking the required actions, through a Climate Action Roadmap.
The Roadmap describes the plans in place and the progress towards meeting the Department’s obligations. The document is arranged under the headings of:
• Our Targets
• Our People
• Our Way of Working
• Our Buildings and Vehicles
• Our Wider Climate Action Plans
DRCD’s Climate Action Roadmap provides a framework through which the Department seeks to meet its target of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 51% by 2030 and to improve energy efficiency beyond the 33% target in 2020 to 50% by 2030.
