A public consultation is now underway in respect of the Dundalk Bay Natura Permits Policy.
The purpose of this consultation is to seek the views of those with an interest in the Dundalk Bay cockle fishery regarding the permits policy for that fishery. This consultation is being carried out in conjunction with the review of the Fisheries Natura Plan in place for cockle fishing in Dundalk Bay.
The information received during the consultation will inform policy decisions on the further development of the permits policy, particularly the definition of a transparent set of criteria for issuing additional permits in future years where the fishery biomass and Total Allowable Catch are sufficient to accommodate additional fishers.
