Minister Dooley officially opens the Small Craft Harbour Building at Ros an Mhíl Fishery Harbour Centre

Minister of State for Fisheries and the Marine, Timmy Dooley TD, today visited Ros an Mhíl Fishery Harbour Centre, where he officially opened the Small Craft Harbour Building.

The Minister also hosted stakeholder meetings with local seafood processors and members of the wider fishing community.

Commenting on the recent and ongoing capital works undertaken by the Department at the harbour, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon TD, said:

“Ros an Mhíl, on the Atlantic coast, is ideally placed to support Ireland’s seafood sector, whether through processing, landings or through aquaculture production. I am also pleased to note that the value of Irish landings into Ros an Mhíl has increased to €16 million in 2024 – reflecting, in no small way, the resilience of the sector.”

The visit to Ros an Mhíl reflects Minister Dooley’s commitment to continue to engage openly and often on issues impacting the sector.

Speaking of the Small Craft Harbour Building, Minister Dooley commented:

“This facility is more than just a building. It’s a testament to the deep bond this community has with the sea. It will serve as a central hub for fishers, boaters, and visitors—strengthening our maritime industries, supporting our economy, and preserving our coastal heritage for the future.”

Concluding, Minister Dooley said:

“While challenges remain for the sector, investment in the Small Craft Harbour Building will support Ros an Mhíl in fulfilling its potential to support the development of Ireland’s rural coastal communities through diversification of activities across the blue economy.”
