Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue, today announced a supplementary pay run under the 2023 Complementary Redistributive Income Support for Sustainability (CRISS) and the Complementary Income Support for Young Farmers (CISYF).
To date CRISS payments in excess of €116 million have been paid to over 120,000 applicants, with a further €33 million paid out under CISYF to 6,200 young farmers. A total of €9 million will be paid out under this supplementary payment run, with €5.5 million going to CRISS applicants and €3.5 million to CISYF applicants in the coming days.
These extra payments are because of an increase in the payment rate per hectare for each scheme. The revised rates have been struck to ensure that farmers receive the maximum amount of money possible under CRISS and CISYF and that the department meets its spending target per scheme.
Minister McConalogue stated:
“These supplementary payments will see all eligible CRISS and CISYF farmers receive a top-up payment. I appreciate the amount per farmer may be small in some cases, particularly in relation to CRISS, but it’s important that we ensure the maximum amount of funds are distributed.”
The Minister concluded:
“The CRISS and CISYF payments are important elements of the Pillar 1 payments. Ensuring that young farmers are supported is critically important and this extra funding combined with the original payments that farmers received will help support their farming business.”
Farmers wishing to contact the department regarding their CRISS or CISYF payment, can ring the Direct Payments Helpline at 057-8674422. Farmers can also submit any queries they may have online via agfood.ie, where a detailed breakdown of payments can also be accessed.
Notes
What CRISS is
Complementary Redistributive Income Support for Sustainability (CRISS) was a new scheme introduced in 2023 that is often referred to as “front loading”.
It is designed to redistribute CAP funds from larger farms to medium and smaller sized farms.
CRISS is paid to all active farmers on their first 30 hectares.
Applicants must hold at least one BISS payment entitlement or part thereof to receive payment under CRISS.
The CRISS rate is increasing from €42.67 to €44.65 per hectare. A farmer with 30 ha will receive €59.40 as part of this supplementary payment.
What CISYF is
The Complementary Income Support for Young Farmers is a payment made to farmers under the age of 40 who are educated in agriculture to help them succeed in farming. It can be paid for up to 5 years.
The CISYF rate is increasing from €152.05 to €169.06 per hectare.
A young farmer with 50 ha will receive €850 as part of this supplementary payment.
The EU’s common agricultural policy (CAP) is a partnership between society and agriculture that ensures a stable supply of food, safeguards farmers’ income, protects the environment and keeps rural areas vibrant. EU countries implement the CAP at national level with a tailored CAP Strategic Plan for the period 2023-2027.
