Food Waste Reduction projects Funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine under the Rural Innovation and Development Fund (RIDF)

2022

  • Clean Technology Centre at Munster Technological University – the continued development and roll out of the Savour Food Programme (€59,000)
  • Food Cloud – FoodCloud Apple Gleaning Project. (€60,000)
  • Foodie Save – this is the further development and expansion of a mobile application (app) which allows businesses in the commercial food sector to sell their unsold surplus food at the end of their business day thereby reducing food waste. (€30,500)
  • Carlow County Council – Delivery of a new programme “Optimization+” which brings together supports for SME’s in the Food, Drink and Hospitality Sector to develop an effective circular economy model for their treatment of food and food waste – (€30,500)

2021

  • Clean Technology Centre, Cork Institute of Technology (CTC-CIT) – Provide a Savour Food Online Training programme for the industry for national roll out to tackle food waste in businesses, (€59,900)
  • Food Cloud – this project seeks to investigate the potential for increasing surplus food redistribution from the Irish horticulture sector. (€59,400)
  • Foodie Save – this is the further development and expansion of a mobile application (app) which allows businesses in the commercial food sector to sell their unsold surplus food at the end of their business day thereby reducing food waste. (€28,700)
  • Carlow County Council – Delivery of a new programme “Optimization+” which brings together supports for SME’s in the Food, Drink and Hospitality Sector to develop an effective circular economy model for their treatment of food and food waste – (€32,000)

2020

  • Clean Technology Centre, Cork Institute of Technology (CTC-CIT) – Continued development and national roll out of the Savour Food programme which offers bespoke support to implement solutions tackling food waste that suit individual needs of engaged businesses, (€98,550)
  • Food Cloud – this project involves the development of technology to alert volunteers when and where surplus food is available and what local charities can accept. It also includes training and recruitment of volunteers “food rescue heroes” (€100,000)
  • Foodie Save – this is the development of a mobile application (app) which allows businesses in the commercial food sector to sell their unsold surplus food at the end of their business day thereby reducing food waste. (€100,000).

2019

  • Foodcloud - creation of a series of events in partnership with Irelands top food festivals to highlight the problem of food waste from farm to fork (€100,000)
  • Cleantechnology Cork Institute of Technology (CTC-CIT) - Expansion and development of the Savour Food, Food Waste Reduction Programme. (€99,900).
  • Profitwatch - Food Waste Aware – engagement with food businesses throughout Ireland to encourage using an onsite food waste reduction system with a view to reducing waste and thereby having a positive impact on their business financially and culturally (€99,720)
