Green ERAHUB 2023 First Call for Research Proposals on sustainable, resilient and shock-resistant agri-food systems

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) invites eligible Irish Research Performing Organisations (RPOs) to submit joint research proposals under the Green ERAHUB first Call on “on sustainable, resilient and shock-resistant agri-food systems”

The Call aims to bring together actors from across the entire food system (from conventional and organic supply chains) in a multi-actor approach to improve the capacity of the European Research Area to provide practical and policy-relevant knowledge on climate resilient and resource efficient food and feed systems that include both crop and livestock systems and how developments in production link and engage with human consumer patterns of consumption and acceptance.

Applicants seeking grant-aid from DAFM can apply for funding under any of the scientific topic areas which include:

Topic 1: Enhance fertilizer efficiency and reduce fertilizer use - focusses on integrated nutrient management. Improving crop production systems and, for instance, the retrieval and use of bio-based fertilising material, shall substitute synthetic nitrogen fertiliser inputs with lower impact alternatives.

Topic 2: Increase European protein self-sufficiency - focusses on human and animal nutrition with a balanced protein content from sustainable sources. Protein self-sufficiency shall be increased, also by balancing the production of feed and food.

Topic 3: Mitigate GHGs emissions in agricultural and food systems - this topic focusses on the mitigation of GHGs in agri-food systems, from primary production to consumption. Alternatively, it can address ammonia emissions

Topic 4: Sustainable energy use and production in agri-food systems - focusses on alternatives to fossil fuels and covers renewable energy production and use of energy within agri-food systems.

The Joint Call follows a two-step procedure that includes a pre-registration step followed by the full proposal submission.

The deadline for pre-registration is: 20th July 2023

The deadline for the submission of proposals is the 7th September 2023

Additional information on the call scope, topics, eligibility criteria, submission procedures and the national annexes are provided in the Call Documentation. The Call documentation and the electronic submission system for applicants are available at: Announcement of the 1st Green ERA-HUB research funding Call, Green Era Hub

Proposals must be submitted via the electronic submission system.

Irish applicants must read the ‘Guidelines for Irish Applicants’ in conjunction with the Green ERAHUB Call Documentation, including the requirements set out in the National Annex for Ireland. The ‘Guidelines for Irish Applicants’ sets out in more detail the rules for Irish applicants seeking grant-aid from the Green ERAHUB First Call on sustainable, resilient and shock-resistant agri-food systems.
