This booklet explains the rules on sheep identification and movement that sheep farmers must comply with from 1 June 2019, under a revised National Sheep Identification System (NSIS).

There are 5 main elements in the National Sheep Identification System, all of which must be complied with by any person who keeps sheep. These are:

  • registration
  • identification
  • movement
  • record keeping
  • census
