Key legislation in relation to Plant Health is as follows:

S.I. No. 459/2020 - European Union (Plant Health) Regulations 2020 (irishstatutebook.ie) came into effect in October 2020 and gives effect to the Plant Health Regulation (EU) 2016/2031- EUR-Lex - 32016R2031 - EN - EUR-Lex (europa.eu) and Official Controls Regulation (EU) 2017/625 in Irish law - EUR-Lex - 32017R0625 - EN - EUR-Lex (europa.eu) . .

In June 2021, Ireland introduced plant notification national legislation, S.I. No. 310/2021 - European Union (Plant Health Controls) Regulations 2021 (irishstatutebook.ie), which provides for notification on arrival for additional plant species and plant products of economic, environmental and social importance to Ireland. This allows the Department organise official control inspections on the plants and plant products listed in the schedule of the S.I, which is consistent with article 9(7) of the Official Controls Regulation (EU) 2017/625.
