What the Beef Exceptional Aid Measure (BEAM) is
The Beef Exceptional Aid Measure (BEAM) gives temporary financial aid to beef farmers in Ireland.
How to qualify
To qualify for BEAM, you must be:
- an active herd-owner farming a holding for which a Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) application was submitted for 2018
- a member of at least one environmental scheme or the Bord Bia Sustainable Beef and Lamb Assurance Scheme (SBLAS) at the time of application, or commit to become a member of the SBLAS before 1 December 2019
The herd must have at least one eligible animal under the scheme, as set out in the conditions at the bottom of this page.
The following are not eligible for the scheme:
- agents and dealers
- factory owned or controlled animals
- milk suppliers - except in the case where the herd had 40 dairy cows or less on 31 December 2018 as identified on Animal Identification & Movement (AIM)
Rates of payment
Finished Animals: €100 per animal subject to a maximum of 100 such animals per eligible herd.
OR
Suckler Cows: €40 per animal subject to a maximum of 40 such animals per eligible herd.
BEAM commitment
Applicants commit to reduce the production of bovine livestock manure nitrogen on the holding by 5% for the period 01 July 2020 to 30 June 2021 as compared with the period 01 July 2018 to 30 June 2019.
Applicants can choose to defer the commitment to reduce the production of bovine livestock manure nitrogen on the holding by 5% for the period 01 January 2021 to 31 December 2021 as compared with the period 01 July 2018 to 30 June 2019. You must apply to use this deferment and read separate terms and conditions .
Applicants will be responsible for monitoring the progress of their reduction over the period.

Applications are accepted through the agfood.ie portal from 19 August to 20 September 2019.
Applicants who chose to defer the the commitment to reduce the production of bovine livestock manure nitrogen on the holding by 5% for the period 01 January 2021 to 31 December 2021 must apply on agfood.ie by Monday 21 June 2021.
Payments were made in the last three months of 2019.
