Goat Herd Register

What the Goat Herd Register is

Goat Herd Registers record details of the number of goats on a farm and details of their movements. You must keep a herd register in the format supplied by the Department of Agriculture if you keep goats on a registered farm.

What you must do

For goats born prior to 31 December 2009 the details can be recorded on a batch basis rather than individual basis for all movements of goats onto and off the holding.

For all goats born after 31 December 2009 it is necessary to record details on an individual animal basis including the following:

  • the individual identification code of the animal
  • the year of birth and date of identification
  • the month and the year of death of the animal on the holding
  • the race and, if known, the genotype
