Public Consultation on the Statement of Strategy


Introduction

The Department is in the process of developing its Statement of Strategy 2025 – 2027. The new Strategy will focus on the Minister’s responsibilities following the transfer of Integration and Youth functions from this Department which will have taken effect ahead of its publication.

This new Statement of Strategy will reflect and be informed by the Government commitments in the Programme for Government - Securing Ireland’s Future in addition to key Departmental policies and objectives including:

  • implementing Young Ireland, the Government’s national policy framework for children and young people, supporting them to achieve their potential
  • promoting the development of a progressive, respectful and equal society, including for persons with disabilities, in line with a rights-based approach and with a particular focus on intervention and proactive support by supporting the State’s response to the needs of survivors of institutional trauma
  • making high-quality early learning and care and school-age childcare, accessible
  • ensuring that parents are supported to parent confidently and positively
  • ensuring child welfare and protection systems are effective and responsive
  • promoting and supporting evidence-based policy and letting children and young people participate in decisions that affect their lives
  • supporting the State’s response to the needs of survivors of institutional trauma

How to participate in the consultation process

To assist the department in defining our strategic vision for the next three years, you are now invited to submit your views as to the issues or topics that should be focused on within the Statement of Strategy.

The closing date for submissions is 5:00pm on Friday 16th May 2025.

What we will do with your response

Responses will be collated and analysed by the Department. The feedback from the public consultation will be used to prepare the final draft of the Statement of Strategy 2025-2027.

Parties should clearly identify confidential or commercially sensitive information in their submission. However, parties should also note that any or all responses to the consultation are subject in their entirety to the provisions of the FOI Act.
