Comhairle na nÓg (Local Youth Council) rebrand and website launch

The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth today welcomes the launch of new Comhairle na nÓg (Local Youth Council) branding and website, which has been developed in collaboration with the National Participation Office This fulfils a key action in the Comhairle na nÓg Five Year Development Plan to revise and relaunch the Comhairle brand, to communicate its vision, mission, and values, and to enhance its public profile.

The new branding for Comhairle na nÓg was created following a consultation process with key stakeholders, including young people. The Comhairle name is retained and new exciting branding has been developed. A new website has been designed with three main users in mind.

• Comhairle na nÓg members,

• young people interested in joining Comhairle,

• policy makers who are keen to include children and young people in the decision-making process.

Minister O’Gorman welcomed the new branding and said,

“The new branding is exciting, engaging and powerful, a true reflection of the young members of Comhairle na nÓg”.

Since 2002, Comhairle na nÓg (local youth councils) have been giving young people a voice on the development of local policies and services in each of the 31 Local Authorities, supported by the DCEDIY and by the National Participation Office. Young people aged 12-17 become members of their local Comhairle na nÓg through their schools, youth organisations and community groups. In addition to being the recognised national structure for participation by children and young people in decision-making in all 31 local authorities, Comhairle na nÓg also provides young people with a voice in decision-making nationally through Dáil na nÓg (National Youth Parliament), Seanad na nÓg (Youth Senate) the National Youth Assembly of Ireland and Government consultations on national policy.

Minister O’Gorman went on to say

“The website is an invaluable tool not only for young people interested in joining Comhairle na nÓg, but for policy makers and decision makers who wish to engage with young people during their policy making process. This website will help to demonstrate the positive contributions members of Comhairle na nÓg have made in public policy and will become a key information and contact point for all those interested in youth participation.”
