Expressions of Interest for Members of Young Ireland Advisory Council

The Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Roderic O’Gorman, is inviting expressions of interest to form a new Young Ireland Advisory Council. The new Advisory Council will provide independent advice on policy related to children and young people.

The Advisory Council will bring together key stakeholders and sectoral experts, and young people on issues affecting children and young people up to the end of 2028, in line with the lifetime of Young Ireland: the National Policy Framework for Children and Young People (0-24) 2023-2028.

Please go to gov.ie/youngireland for details on how to register your interest in becoming a member of this Council.

A maximum of ten members with expertise in children and young people’s services and policy will be selected, and the department is particularly interested in hearing from those in the areas of child poverty and well-being; children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing; and children’s disability services.

Minister O’Gorman commented:

“This is an exciting opportunity for Government to work closely with those who have specific, specialist expertise and I am keen to make sure we hear from different people, from different perspectives and different backgrounds. Expertise can come from working in service provision, professional practice, advocacy, academia, research, in personal or family experience, so I would encourage anyone who has substantial experience of the issues facing children and young people and feels they can make a positive contribution to this Advisory Council to register their interest."

The Advisory Council will also contribute to the oversight of the implementation of Young Ireland and will be an important element of the overall governance structures. In this context, expressions of interest from those with expertise in the priority areas set out in the policy framework are welcome. These areas are: play and recreation; inclusion in education; education reform; access to further and higher education; foster care, care and aftercare; child protection; children and young people as victims and witnesses of crime; access to housing; the digital environment; and participation in democracy.

Expressions of interest will be accepted until close of business on 14 February 2024.
