Today, the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Roderic O’Gorman publishes a research report on the experiences of people affected by a loss of pregnancy while working, which details recommendations to improve supports for those affected. Speaking about the publication, Minister O’Gorman said:

“This project is a vital piece of research which provides recommendations as to how we can ensure those who experience a pregnancy loss while in employment are adequately supported in their employment. This research project is very informative and will assist the creation and implementation of policy in this area.

“I would like to thank those who took the time to share their experiences in the survey and the interviews. Their contribution was key to this report.”

Notes

The department commissioned researchers in UCC to undertake this research project in 2022, with the aim of guiding the department on how best to support those who experience a pregnancy loss while in employment. This project was led by Prof Keelin O’Donoghue and managed by Marita Hennessy, and consisted of a team of researchers across UCC and NUIG.

The report provides recommendations for policymakers in the department based on the experiences of those who participated in the survey and the interviews, in addition to information on legal standards and good practices from other jurisdictions. The Minister, the department and the authors of the report would like to thank those who took part in the survey and interviews.
