Children and Young People’s Services Committees (CYPSC) support inter-agency co-ordination and collaboration to help achieve the best outcomes for all children and young people in their area.
There are 27 CYPSC across the country, mostly aligned with local authority areas.
All major organisations and agencies working locally on behalf of children and young people are represented on CYPSC.
Each CYPSC develops a local area plan which takes account of the needs of children and young people in the local area and national policy objectives. Each plan sets out agreed actions and priorities to improve outcomes for children and young people in the area.
The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth provides strategic oversight and policy direction for the CYPSC initiative.
Tusla, the Child and Family Agency, has responsibility for the implementation of the initiative through the employment of a CYPSC National Coordinator and local Coordinators in each local CYPSC area.
Each CYPSC works towards the five national outcomes as set out in Better Outcomes, Brighter Futures – the National Policy Framework for Children and Young People (2014-2020).
These are:
• Active and healthy with physical and mental well-being,
• Achieving full potential in all areas of learning and development,
• Safe and protected from harm,
• Economic security and opportunity,
• Connected, respected and contributing to their world.
Shared Vision, Next Steps (2019–2024) is the national policy document for the CYPSC initiative and can be found here: Shared Vision, Next Steps 2019 - 2024
