High-level goal at the Department of Defence

Introduction
The high-level goal of the Defence organisaton, as set out in the Department of Defence and Defence Forces Strategy Statement 2023 - 2026 is:
"to provide for the military defence of the State, contribute to national and international peace and security and fulfill all other roles assigned by government".
Programme for a Partnership Government
The Programme for Government Our Shared Future (2020) includes seven separate commitments that have been assigned to the Department of Defence. Many of these overlap with extant White Paper commitments.
