Minister Kehoe Welcomes progress on the Upgrade and Refurbishment of Cathal Brugha Barracks, Blocks 1 and 2

The Minister with Responsibility for Defence, Mr. Paul Kehoe T.D., today (13th January 2020) welcomed progress on the ongoing works at Cathal Brugha Barracks Blocks 1 and 2.
The works, valued at €2.8m, will see the upgrade of 80 bed spaces. The project is due to be completed within the coming months. This main works contract is being carried out by Bracegrade Ltd. who were successful following a highly competitive tender competition for the project.
“This capital project consists of the upgrade and refurbishment of two existing accommodation buildings in the Barracks and will provide 80 upgraded standard accommodation bed spaces for living-in personnel while satisfying the increased demand in the Barracks resulting from continuous recruitment,” Minister Kehoe said.
The refurbished buildings will provide modern living arrangements, recreation room and associated ablution/shower facilities.
Minister Kehoe stated that “the refurbishment and upgrading of the facility is being undertaken as part of the Defence Forces Built Infrastructure programme. The programme will modernise and enhance the training, operational and accommodation facilities available to members of the Defence Forces.”.
The Minister added “in addition to the upgrade of Cathal Brugha Blocks 1 &2, some €28m was made available for the maintenance of and the development of new building projects for the Defence Forces.”
This project will cost €2.8m and will be completed within the coming months.
