White Paper on Defence Programme Status Report May 2024

The Strategic Framework on the Transformation of the Defence Forces, published by the Tánaiste in September 2023, committed to the publication of a Status Report on the White Paper projects implementation process.

The objective remains to complete each of the 95 White Paper projects initiated in 2015 in line with Government policy. With that said, it is recognised that with the publication of the Report of the Commission on the Defence Forces in 2022, and the recent publication of the Strategic Framework and the Detailed Implementation Plan for the Report of the Commission on the Defence Forces in November 2023 it is appropriate to set out the mechanisms through which remaining projects will be progressed.

The purpose of this Status Report is to:

» set out the White Paper projects which are formally completed and closed; and

for remaining White Paper projects to set out:

» which specific projects within the Detailed Implementation Plan for the Commission on the Defence Forces they will be incorporated into; or

» those that will be progressed on a stand-alone basis.

The Status Report thereby provides the means through which full traceability for each White Paper project can be tracked through to conclusion.
