The Head of National Operations Policy has responsibility for policy and planning in relation to the following:
- Defence Force involvement in the provision of internal security support and emergency planning
- fishery protection and maritime surveillance
- air ambulance operations
- ministerial air transport service
- the Army Equitation School
- the Military Archives
- Defence Forces involvement in ceremonial events.
They are also responsible for coordination with other stakeholders in relation to the role played by the Department and the Defence Forces in the Government's Decade of Centenaries programme.
