The National Archives

The National Archives annually receives thousands of documents relating to the business of government. Part of their mandate is to preserve the records of government departments, the courts and other state agencies which are listed in the Schedule to the National Archives Act, 1986 and to make these records of permanent value available in their Reading Room to members of the public.

Reader Services Division in the National Archives provides a public service to readers and users, both locally and externally. Staff of this Division administer the public Reading Room and the website of the National Archives; ensure the provision of documents and microfilms to readers; answer reader enquiries by letter, email, fax or telephone; reproduce documents according to public demand; accommodate visits and lectures; administer the Genealogy Service; produce publicity materials and provide online exhibitions and the online Documents of the Month feature drawn from the collections of the National Archives.
