Minister Foley welcomes agreement of extension of bereavement leave in Education Sector

The Minister for Education Norma Foley has today welcomed the decision to align bereavement leave for staff in the education sector with those in other areas of the public sector. This agreement will see existing leave for staff extended to 20 days in relation to the death of a spouse/partner or child.

Minister Foley said:

“It is important at times of bereavement that everyone gets time and space to grieve and reflect. Today’s announcement ensures that all our staff in the education sector are on the same terms as all other public sector workers in terms of bereavement leave.

“The department will be engaging with trade unions in the coming days with the aim of implementing these changes as early as possible.”
