Minister for Education Norma Foley, Minister of State for Special Education and Inclusion Hildegarde Naughton and Minister of State for Sport and Physical Education Thomas Byrne have congratulated the 60,839 students across Ireland receiving their Leaving Certificate examination results today.
The State Examinations Commission (SEC) will make Leaving Certificate 2024 results available from 10am today to students who sat this year’s Leaving Certificate Established, Leaving Certificate Applied and Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme examinations.
Ministers Foley, Naughton and Byrne have reminded all students of the wide range of wellbeing and career supports available to assist them as they receive results today and begin to look ahead to future education and career options they may wish to explore.
Minister Foley also welcomed the confirmation from the State Examinations Commission this year that it intends to issue the results of any Leaving Certificate appeals on Friday, 27 September, and also that it intends to issue Junior Cycle results on Wednesday, 9 October.
Minister Foley said:
“Today is a momentous day in the lives of almost 61,000 students across Ireland and your families and school communities as you receive your Leaving Certificate results. I would like to congratulate each and every one of you on this milestone, which brings reward and recognition for all your work and dedication over the past number of years. I hope you can enjoy the day and reflect on all you have achieved, as well as the friendships you made and the many ways you enriched the life of your school on your journey to today.
“This is an exciting moment in your life, as you look ahead to the many great and varied opportunities that lie ahead. Whether your next step will take you into the world of further or higher education, an apprenticeship, work, or other possibilities, I would like to wish you every success and happiness for all to come.
"I want to thank the State Examinations Commission, and the many teachers who undertook work as examiners this year, for their commitment and intensive work to deliver these results today. I would also like to thank your parents, families and school communities, as well as the dedicated teachers, SNAs and school staff who helped to ensure you were supported throughout your time at school and played a vital role in your journey to today. They will no doubt also join in celebrating your achievements and congratulating you on your results and I would like to wish them well for the future also.
“I also welcome the announcement by the State Examinations Commission today that Junior Cycle examination results will be issued to students on Wednesday 9 October this year – a week earlier than they issued in 2023. This will provide clarity to those students and their families and I would also like to wish them well.”
Minister Naughton said:
“I would like to congratulate every member of the Leaving Certificate Class of 2024 today on your fantastic achievements. You have put in the hard work and commitment and have every reason to feel proud of all you have accomplished, no matter what your results. This is a significant day also for your families and school communities who have guided and supported you along the way and I would also like to wish them well.
“As you look to your future ahead, there are more opportunities available to you than ever before to help you achieve your goals and realise your potential. The very best of luck with all you do.
"I would also like to pay tribute to the teachers, principals, school communities, parents and guardians and indeed all of those who put huge work into both supporting you throughout your journey and helping to ensure this year’s Leaving Certificate exams passed smoothly.”
Minister Byrne said:
"Congratulations to all students receiving their Leaving Certificate results today, including over 8,000 students receiving results in their Physical Education (PE) examination. Today is a day to celebrate you and recognise and reward all the time, energy and dedication you have put into your learning and your school life over the past number of years. Today also signifies the beginning of a new path for you and there are a wide range of supports available to you in exploring your many varied options.
"To all students who undertook studies and exams in Physical Education, I hope that you will continue to take advantage of the insights, skills and healthy habits offered by the subject into the future. Congratulations on your results today.”
