Calculation of teacher's salary
A teacher's gross salary is comprised of various elements as follows:
- the appropriate incremental point of the common basic scale;
- an additional allowance for academic qualifications;
- an additional allowance for a promoted post (i.e. principal, deputy principal, assistant principal, special duties teacher)
- other special allowances
- teachers' Children's Allowance in certain cases.
Note: These allowances may not be applicable to all teachers.
Fortnightly gross salary is calculated by dividing the relevant point on the common basic scale and allowance(s), where relevant, by 26.09.
Special Needs Assistants (SNA)s
Starting point on the scale
All Special Needs Assistants start on point 1 of the SNA salary scale.
Calculation of Special Needs Assistant's salary
A full-time SNA’s gross salary is equivalent to the relevant point on the SNA salary scale. Fortnightly gross salary is calculated by dividing the relevant point on the scale by 26.09. Where an SNA works part-time, their salary is calculated on a pro-rata basis for each hour worked.
