A School can apply for specialised furniture or equipment for students with special educational needs (SEN) who are enrolled in the school. This includes furniture for a particular child's postural and toileting needs which assists the students in managing their day to day needs and facilitates their access to the curriculum. Certain items, including wheelchairs and sensory items, are not included in this scheme.
To make an application for special educational needs (SEN) furniture and equipment please submit the following documentation to furnitureequipment@education.gov.ie
1) Application form (available here)
2) An Occupational Therapist report which includes a recommendation for SEN furniture and equipment that is being applied for, signed, and dated by the Professional
3) One supplier quotation, inclusive of VAT and delivery charges, if there are any. All valid quotations should be in Euro only.
4) For schools under the Patronage of an Education and Training Board (ETB), a supporting letter from the relevant ETB should accompany your application form.
The Department’s approval process
If the application is approved, the school will receive a Purchase Order number, confirming that funding has been approved and the money will be transferred to the school’s bank account. The school is then responsible for ordering and paying for the equipment using the allocated funds. Invoices should be kept on file at the school.
