COVID-19 : Special Leave with Pay

Teachers and SNAs

Based on the current HSE advice, a person who has tested positive for COVID-19 needs to stay at home for 5 days and avoid contact with other people.

COVID-19 Special Leave with Pay is available to a teacher or SNA who receives a positive COVID-19 antigen test result. For further information, please refer to Information Note TC/IN 0016/2024 and Circular 0038/2022 which details the working arrangements and leave arrangements for teachers and special needs assistants employed in recognised primary and post primary schools.

How to apply for Covid-19 Special Leave

Teachers and SNAs

Teachers and SNAs should complete the form at Apendix A of Information Note TC/IN 0016/2024 and submit it to their employer as soon as possible.

Other Staff

Staff Other Than Teachers and Special Needs Assistants employed in Education and Training Boards should complete the form at Appendix A of Circular 0039/2022.

Special Needs Assistants (SNAs) are encouraged to submit queries regarding SNA Leave Schemes to their employers in the first instance. All employers have access to applicable Circulars relating to SNA Leave Schemes. Queries relating to statutory and non-statutory SNAs Leave Schemes can be submitted to Leave Admin Section, Teacher/SNA Terms and Conditions Section at the email address above. Recruitment and Appointment Unit in Teacher/SNA Terms and Conditions Section sets out the recruitment and appointment procedures for SNAs for the primary and post primary sector.
