What Death Benefits are
Death Benefits may be payable to spouses of teachers, special needs assistants, certain caretakers and certain clerical officers who have died either:
- in service
- after retirement
- out of service

Please contact the Pensions Unit in writing, by telephone or email to inform the Department of Education of the death.
The Pensions Unit will assess whether or not benefits may be payable.
Contact us
Staff of ETBs, third level institutions and other bodies under the aegis of the Department should contact the Pensions Administrators in their particular ETB / Institution/ Body in the first instance.
Your PPS ( Personal Public Service ) number must be quoted in all communications ( emails, post & telephone) with this unit regardless of whether or not you are also quoting your payroll number or pension number.
