Fixed term contracts for teachers

The terms agreed for the implementation of the Protection of Employees (Fixed Term Work) Act 2003, including Contracts of Indefinite Duration (CID), for primary or post-primary school authorities, are set out in the circulars below:
Post Primary Teachers

- Circular 0024/2015 - Implementation of the Recommendations of the Expert Group on Fixed-Term and Part-Time Employment in Primary and Second Level Education in Ireland
- Circular 0034/2009 - Person employed as a Qualified Teacher in an approved teaching post
- Circular 0033/2009 - Persons who are deemed to be incompletely qualified or unqualified and employed
Primary Teachers
Appeal Process
A teacher has a right to appeal a decision if they are dissatisfied with a decision of the Board of Management not to award a CID, or to award a certain number of hours.
An appeal must be made to the teacher’s employer (Education and Training Boards or Board of Management) within 4 working weeks of the date of notification of the decision. The procedures are fully listed in the following circular:
