DETE Transition Year Work Experience Policy

This policy sets out the processes and procedures for any Transition Year (TY) student that wishes to apply to undertake a work experience placement in the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment.

We aim to provide a varied and meaningful experience to TY students that will give them a real understanding of what it is like to work in a progressive and outward-looking Civil Service department.

The option to apply directly to the department for a work experience placement is open to all TY students whose schools facilitate them to undertake work experience. Applications will be accepted by email between 1 September and 31 March of each academic year to hrstrategy@enterprise.gov.ie

In their application, students should identify themselves, their school, the dates they wish to undertake their work experience and a short paragraph on why they are interested in working in the department. They should also identify their school’s TY coordinator and their contact information.

Applications to the department should be made at least 6 weeks before the date the student wishes to start their work experience.

The policy also covers arrangements for staff who wish to bring relatives into the department for TY work experience outside the limited numbers available under the official programme.
