First time buyers DIRT relief – applications can now be made on Revenue.ie

First-time purchasers or self-builders of a home are eligible to make a claim to the Revenue Commissioners for a refund of the DIRT paid, on the interest earned on their savings. The property must have been purchased or built as the first-time buyer’s home.

Where the property is purchased, relief is available from DIRT paid on savings in the 48 months prior to the purchase date, up to a maximum of 20% of the purchase price of the home. The conveyance must take place between 14 October 2014 and 31 December 2017.

Where the property is self-built, relief is available on DIRT paid on savings in the 48 months prior to the completion date, up to a maximum of 20% of the completion value of the house. The property must be completed between 14 October 2014 and 31 December 2017, be suitable to live in immediately, and registered in the name of the first time buyers(s) before 31 December 2017.
