The Minister for Finance and President of the Eurogroup Paschal Donohoe T.D. travels to Washington this week to represent both Ireland and the euro area at the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank.
The Spring Meetings provide the opportunity for Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors from around the world to meet and discuss global economic and development challenges and take place against an economic backdrop that has become increasingly uncertain.
Speaking ahead of the Spring Meetings, Minister Donohoe commented:
“As Minister for Finance, Ireland’s Governor at both the IMF and World Bank and as President of the Eurogroup, I am pleased to participate in this year’s Spring Meetings in Washington D.C.
“These Institutions celebrated their 80-year anniversary last year, and now, maybe more than any time in recent memory, we need these institutions to help address the global challenges that we face. Multilateralism, particularly in the face of persistent and ongoing global conflicts and recent economic turbulence, is key for securing effective and resilient outcomes.
“During my visit, I look forward to a series of constructive engagements with Ministerial colleagues and officials at the IMF and World Bank on how best to address these economic challenges and further our shared goals.”
During the Spring Meetings, Minister Donohoe will participate in the seventh Ministerial Roundtable Discussion for Support for Ukraine and attend the G20 Meeting of Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors. He will also attend the G7 Finance Ministers' and Central Bank Governors' meeting in his capacity as President of the Eurogroup.
The Spring Meetings will also provide an opportunity to meet with business leaders and senior officials of the IMF and World Bank to discuss recent developments including the IMF’s assessment of the global economic outlook and the replenishment of the World Bank’s International Development Association.
Minister Donohoe will also participate in media engagements to highlight the European economic and financial policy agenda.
