Event overview
Theme:
The Department of Finance Annual Policy Conference will take place at 14:30 on 11th July 2023 in the River Suites, the Central Bank of Ireland on North Wall Quay in Dublin. The theme of the conference is on future-proofing the public finances – next steps. This follows the recent publication of a scoping paper which sets out some of the merits of establishing a long-term public savings vehicle in Ireland.
Context:
Corporation tax revenue has effectively doubled since just before the Covid-19 pandemic. On balance, the evidence suggests that much of this is windfall in nature. It is not possible to predict a turning point for these windfalls; accordingly, the headline budgetary surplus is set to expand further in the coming years. At the same time, medium-term pressures are building on the public finances. In this context, consideration is being given to the establishment of a long-term savings fund. The conference presents an opportunity to reflect on these matters.
Registration:
On the day, the registration desk will open at 14:00, with light refreshments available before the start of the conference. Guests must present their photo ID to receive their visitor badge to access the venue.
