Chief Economist, Economic Division

The Chief Economist has responsibility for Economic Policy Division including:

  • macroeconomic analysis and forecasting
  • developing a strategy for the Irish economy across all sectors
  • the economic analysis of Department policies
  • responsibility at Assistant Secretary level for overall budgetary policy

In relation to budgetary policy, the Chief Economist has responsibility to:

  • coordinate the budgetary process in accordance with the EU Semester
  • monitor Exchequer returns
  • forecast tax receipts
  • analyse the impact of policy options on government finances
