Cleaner Competition in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade


The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade will hold a recruitment campaign for the purpose of recommending persons for appointment to the above position in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

A panel may be formed from this competition from which future permanent positions, should they arise, may be filled by candidates who successfully meet the requirements of the role.

General Duties to include but not limited to:

  • General cleaning within the Department: offices, meeting rooms, reception, canteen areas etc.
  • Wash and polish corridors, polish lifts, landing and stairs.
  • Waste management.
  • Clean toilets and supply paper towels, toilet rolls etc.
  • Vacuum and dust offices, meeting rooms and corridors.
  • To wear a uniform and maintain a clean and tidy appearance at all times.
  • Undertake any other duties relating to the post of Cleaner as assigned by the

Superintendent of Cleaners or Facilities Manager in Property Management Unit.

  • Maintenance of Health and Safety Standards and the correct use of chemicals
  • Assisting as required with the implementation of the environmental and recycling policies to ensure that the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade environmental policies and targets are achieved.
  • Reporting on physical condition of offices / facilities and report any maintenance issues to Property Management Unit via the Superintendent of Cleaners or the Facilities Manager.
  • Participation in Performance Management and Development System meetings.

Eligibility to compete:

Citizenship:

Candidates must, on or before 6th August 2025, be:

(a) A citizen of the European Economic Area (EEA). The EEA consists of the Member States of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway; or

(b) A citizen of the United Kingdom (UK); or

(c) A citizen of Switzerland pursuant to the agreement between the EU and Switzerland on the free movement of persons; or

(d) A non-EEA citizen who has a stamp 4 or a stamp 5 permission.

Closing date

The closing date for completed applications is 12 noon (Irish time) on 6th August 2025. Late applications cannot be accepted.
