Minister Carroll MacNeill launches EU recruitment portal for Irish applicants

Today, the Minister of State with responsibility for European Affairs & Defence, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD, launched the new EU careers portal on Ireland.ie/eujobs.

The page contains information about the diverse and rewarding careers available with the EU institutions and agencies, including upcoming job opportunities and traineeships.

Announcing the portal, Minister Carroll MacNeill said:

“The EU has incredible career opportunities where you can have a meaningful impact on some of the world’s greatest challenges, such as climate change and artificial intelligence. The EU needs experts in over 50 fields including, law, environment, veterinary, finance, and health, so whatever your qualification there is a place for you. EU careers are professionally and personally rewarding”.

“Ireland has a proud history of shaping the EU for the benefit of its 450 million citizens. We have provided two secretaries-general of the European Commission, Catherine Day and David O’Sullivan – two outstanding public servants. We want to continue this legacy and provide the future leadership of the EU Institutions.

“Our new webpage is the one-stop-shop for all the information people need about the incredible career opportunities that exist in the EU.”

Minister Carroll MacNeill highlighted the resources available to candidates and also emphasised career opportunities with Irish:

“The Government would like our candidates to succeed which is why we are providing free and comprehensive supports such as practice tests and interview preparation, which are all available in Irish too. It is important to remember that Irish is one of the EU’s official languages and experts with Irish language skills are in high-demand, particularly as interpreters and lawyer-linguists.”

A Career for EU is Ireland’s strategy to increase Irish representation in the European Union’s Institutions and Agencies. It contains a number of measures including tailored support and training to Irish candidates applying for posts in the EU institutions and provide additional resources dedicated to supporting the use of Irish as an official EU language. More information on the strategy and working in the EU can be found on Ireland.ie/eujobs.
