Minister of State for International Development and Diaspora, Neale Richmond TD, has announced €2m in Irish Aid funding to support 34 organisations working in schools and communities across Ireland. The funding will support educational activities to build understanding of global issues such as climate change, hunger and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Among the groups to receive funding in this round are Munster Technological University, Inishowen Changemakers, Eco-Unesco, Irish Girl Guides, and Proudly Made in Africa.
Announcing the funding, Minister Richmond said:
“As a society, we are grappling with big global issues - issues that affect our lives today and will significantly influence our children’s futures. In this interconnected world, it is vital that people of all ages understand global issues and how we can all, individually and collectively, contribute to making the world a better place.
“The organisations that will receive this Irish Aid funding are working to ensure people of all ages in Ireland are informed about those big global issues. The work they do is important and I am delighted that Irish Aid can support it. We are supporting a number of new partners this year and I encourage organisations wanting to work in Global Citizenship Education to apply for the 2026 round which will open next October.”

Notes to the Editor:
- Irish Aid defines Global Citizenship Education (GCE) as a lifelong educational process which aims to increase public awareness and understanding of the rapidly changing, inter-dependent and unequal world in which we live. GCE covers a wide range of issues including climate change, hunger, migration, peace and conflict, global inequality and injustice.
- Irish Aid is providing grants totalling €1.97 million to 34 organisations under its 2025 GCE grants round to organisations based in Ireland. This includes year 2 and 3 funding to 19 organisations in the 2023 and 2024 grants rounds.
- The GCE grants scheme is a competitive process under which grants of between €10,000 and €180,000 for one, two or three year projects, are awarded to Ireland-based NGOs and educational institutions. A call for proposals was published on the Irish Aid website in October 2024.
- The EU Development Education and Awareness Raising (DEAR) Programme supports projects that engage Europeans in global issues related to social, economic and environmental development. Projects listed below are co-funded by the European Commission with Irish Aid.
