Statement by the Tánaiste on the appointment of new UK Foreign Secretary

I would like to congratulate Yvette Cooper on her appointment as UK Foreign Secretary.

I look forward to working with her, not least to deliver on our ambitious plans for foreign and security policy cooperation as part of the Ireland-UK Joint Statement 2030.

In a turbulent geo-political environment, Yvette’s extensive experience, political and diplomatic skills, and strong record of delivery will be deeply valuable.

I also want to pay tribute to David Lammy and congratulate him and wish him the best in his new role as Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Secretary.
