Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Simon Harris today met US Senator Mitchell at Government Buildings.
The Tánaiste and Senator Mitchell spoke about the lasting impact of the Good Friday Agreement, as well as US-Irish relations.
Speaking following the meeting, the Tánaiste said: “I was delighted and honoured to meet Senator George Mitchell in Dublin today, 27 years after the talks he chaired opened a new, foundational, chapter for this island.
“It is remarkable that someone who gave so much to Ireland continues to contribute so meaningfully all these years later.
“Every man, woman and child on this island owes him a debt of gratitude.
“Senator Mitchell spoke about passing the torch to a new generation, calling on young people to play their part in a positive, prosperous, and peaceful future. I can only echo that call today.”
