Tánaiste Simon Harris has commented on the Israeli strikes on Doha, Qatar, earlier today.
The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade said: “I am seriously concerned by the news from Doha today of Israeli strikes on the city.
“My officials are seeking to establish a full picture of the events and their implications. Qatar is a country that has been playing a very positive role to achieve a ceasefire and the release of all hostages.
“As I have said repeatedly, we do not need a further escalation in violence which risks further destabilising the region. Our overarching priority is a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages, humanitarian access at scale and a roadmap towards a two-state solution.
“As always, we urge all parties to exercise restraint, and engage in de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy.
“The Embassy of Ireland in the UAE is currently advising all Irish citizens to shelter in place, to exercise caution, monitor local and international media, follow the advice of local authorities, and observe any additional security measures imposed during this time.”
