Further to the commitments set out within the Programme for Government, the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science is progressing the development of the Apprenticeship Action Plan 2021-2025.
The Apprenticeship Action Plan 2021-2025 will build on the learnings from, and progress achieved under, the Action plan to expand Apprenticeship and Traineeship (2016-2020). It will set out a clear and ambitious roadmap for the next five years which will more fully integrate apprenticeship into the further and higher education and training landscape, will embed apprenticeship within enterprise and deliver an apprenticeship system which is more accessible to all.
The consultation paper sets out the current position on apprenticeship in Ireland and poses a number of questions to support structured responses to the consultation. Submissions received from this consultation paper formed the basis for further discussion with stakeholders to develop the actions and timeframes for inclusion in the new Plan.

Submissions from stakeholders have been further supplemented with feedback from SME employers through the Regional Skills Fora and also through feedback from 3,700 apprentices in response to an online questionnaire. The main findings and outcomes were presented to stakeholders at an online event held on Monday 23 November.
