Research and Development Budget: 2021 to 2022

What the report shows

This report presents the data on the Government research and development (R&D) budget and on Ireland's R&D expenditure across all sectors for the years 2021 to 2022.

Efforts continued to be been made this year to capture as much Government research expenditure as possible by inviting departments and agencies to take part in the survey. To this effect, the total number of Government departments and agencies taking part in this survey has increased from 45 in 2021 to 52 in 2022. (see Appendix 5 in the full report below for the list of departments).

The results of the survey will be submitted to Eurostat via the Central Statistics Office and the data will also be used for the development and implementation of policies and strategies, such as Impact 2030: Ireland’s Research and Innovation Strategy, which was published in May 2022.
