Dr O’Herlihy earned her Honours Degree in Medicine from University College Cork in 2005 and has since obtained several postgraduate qualifications, including a Diploma in Child Health, a Diploma in Practical Dermatology from Cardiff University, a Diploma in Family Planning, a Certificate in Therapeutics from Cardiff University, a Master's in Public Health focusing on Advanced Epidemiology from University College Cork, and a Doctorate in Medicine (MD) with a thesis on "Proficiency Based Progression Training to Mitigate Blood Sampling Errors including Wrong Blood in Tube."
Dr O’Herlihy is currently the Principal General Practitioner (GP) at Red House Family Practice in Mallow, County Cork, a position she has held since April 2022.
She has also contributed to medical education and research, serving as Quality in Practice Project Officer and Assistant Medical Director and Director of Women's Health at the Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP). Additionally, she has conducted clinical research at Cork University Hospital.
Dr O’Herlihy’s publications include co-authored studies on prescribing practices and proficiency-based training in phlebotomy. She has also contributed to the ICGP guides on the Management of Menopause in General Practice and updates on Domestic Violence and Abuse.
