Health Research and Statistics

At the Department of Health, our mission is to enhance the health and wellbeing of individuals in Ireland by ensuring "the right care, in the right place, at the right time."

The Strategic Research & Evaluation Unit (SREU) plays a pivotal role in achieving this mission by collaborating closely with stakeholders including policy units and the Management Board to deliver targeted, applied research that underpins evidence-based decision-making. By concentrating on priority areas that present high financial risks and/or significantly impact patient outcomes. the SREU operates as a central internal Economic consultancy in the Department of Health providing evidence to support decision-making processes.

The Unit is also responsible for the Joint Research Programme in Healthcare Reform in partnership with the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) and represents the Department of Health on the OECD Health Committee.
