Appointment to the Irish Blood Transfusion Service - 13 November 2023

Following a Public Appointments Service campaign, the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has appointed Dr Nina Orfali to the Board of the Irish Blood Transfusion Service with effect from 13 November 2023 until 12 November 2026.
Dr. Nina Orfali
Dr Orfali is a consultant haematologist at St. James's Hospital and holds an adjunct appointment as senior clinical lecturer in Trinity College Dublin. She is a graduate of NUI Galway and furthermore holds a PhD in medicine awarded by UCC. Having completed clinical and research fellowships at Weill Cornell Medical College, New York, Dr. Orfali was appointed as a specialist in acute leukaemia and stem cell transplantation at our national adult allogeneic transplant unit in 2020. In addition to a busy clinical practice, she is actively engaged in translational research and was recently announced as an inaugural recipient of a Joly Cancer Leadership Award for academic clinicians. She was appointed to the Board of the Irish Blood Transfusion Service on 13 November 2023 for a 3 year period.
