Appointment to the Occupational Therapists Registration Board - 1 December 2023

Following a Public Appointments Service campaign, The Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly T.D., has appointed Mr Amit Bhagwat as a member of the Occupational Therapists Registration Board from 21st November 2023 until 13th February 2025.

Since becoming permanently resident in Europe in the mid-2000s, Amit has led a diverse portfolio where he gives over half his time freely to a range of worthy causes, judging them by their world value and his ability to make a positive difference. Working across multiple concurrent roles, he has accumulated over four decades of board background, including Chair, Treasurer, Audit Chair/Member, and Senior Independent Board Member working in both non-executive and executive roles.

Amit brings a rich committee portfolio – Quality-Accreditations, Strategy, Finance-Growth-Performance-Development-Business Management, Audit-Risk, OD-HR, Appointments, Remuneration, Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity, Grants, Scientific Advice and Ethics. He has also served in several chairing and senior independent member roles across a range of fields – Health-Care-Wellbeing; Welfare; Justice; Public Protection; Housing and for a range of events with a spectrum of audiences from learned technical events to broad audience events across Health and Justice topics.

His board portfolio has also exposed him to a rich variety of professions in various stages of professional definition, regulation, and protectionism. On the island of Ireland, besides serving on the Practice & Education Council for Nursing & Midwifery (NIPEC), Amit serves on the Council for Nature Conservation and the Countryside (CNCC) and as the Council’s representative on the DAERA’s Statistics Advisory Committee, and also on the Steering Committee of the EU Special Programmes Body.

This appointment is with the consent of the Minister for Enterprise, Trade, and Employment.
