Appointment to Vhi Board - 16 April 2024

Following a request from Vhi and after gaining government approval, the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has directly appointed Mr. Martin Kelly, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Vhi, to its Board based on the following reasons:

  • it is common practice in the insurance industry for CFOs to be appointed to the relevant boards
  • a balanced executive view is provided to the Vhi Board when it consists of more than one executive member – the CEO is also currently an executive member of the Board
  • the CFO will greatly assist Vhi in meeting its obligations such as conducting its commercial activities in a prudent, sustainable and cost-effective manner
  • the CFO will provide a detailed executive view of matters to enable the Vhi Board to give assurance that a true reflection of Vhi’s financial performance is provided
  • appointing the CFO to the Vhi Board will aid in ensuring that the annual report and financial statements are fair and balanced, provide the information necessary to assess the company’s financial performance, and comply with the relevant accounting standards
  • Vhi’s previous CFO was also a member of the Board
