Appointments to the Advisory Committee for Veterinary Medicines (HPRA) - 30 May 2024

The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has with the consent of the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, appointed the following members to the Advisory Committee for Veterinary Medicines (HPRA) with effect from 1 December 2023 until 30 November 2028.


Dr. Kevin Murtagh

Kevin graduated from University College Dublin Vet School with first class honours. He then worked in small animal first opinion practice in both the UK and Sydney Australia, for almost 4 years. Kevin undertook a small animal rotating internship at the University of Liverpool, followed by a 3-year residency in Internal Medicine at the same institution. He remained as lecturer in Internal Medicine at the University for a further 18 months. Kevin returned to private practice first in Sydney and then the UK, working as a Specialist in Internal Medicine until August 2019, which was followed by a return to UCD Vet Hospital in September 2019 where he was first appointed assistant professor (ECC and Internal medicine) and subsequently associate professor in Internal Medicine.

Kevin was awarded the RCVS certificate in Internal Medicine in 2012 (Cert SAM), the European Diploma in Internal Medicine in 2016 (Dip ECVIM-ca), making him a European Specialist in Internal Medicine and was subsequently awarded RCVS recognised specialist status in Internal Medicine in 2017. He has since completed a post graduate diploma in Teaching and Learning (PG Dip UTL) and is currently completing a PhD in chronic enteropathy in dogs. His main areas of interest include chronic enteropathy and emergency medicine in both dogs and cats.
