Reappointment to Tallaght Hospital Board - 3 April 2025

Following nomination of the Tallaght Hospital Board, the Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll McNeill has reappointed Mr Mike Beary to Tallaght University Hospital Board with effect from 21 February until 20 February 2028.

Mike Beary serves as Chair of the Governing Authority of University College Dublin. Ranked within the top 1% of higher education institutions world-wide, UCD is Ireland’s largest research university with 38,000 students drawn from 152 countries with an annual budget of €800 million.

Mike was nominated by the Minister of Health to the Board of Tallaght University Hospital in 2021 and currently serves on the Audit and Strategy subcommittees of the board.

Mike was Country Manager Ireland for Amazon Web Services (AWS) from 2017 to 2023 and HR Director for AWS Europe, Middle East & Africa responsible for 25,000 staff across 33 countries. As Ireland country manager, he guided investment decision making for the company in Ireland, overseeing over €10 billion in inward investment into Ireland and growing staff three-fold to 6,500+. Mike regularly represented AWS with external stakeholders including government leaders, policy makers and media and played a leadership role in AWS community engagement, including supporting initiatives around sustainability, local workforce development, and girls in tech.

Mike joined Amazon in Seattle in 2012. He was an integral member of the Amazon Marketplace leadership team, where he served as the global HR Director, and was responsible for facilitating the rapid growth of that organization over four years.

Prior to joining Amazon, Mike held senior HR leadership roles with Disney Consumer Products – a division of The Walt Disney Company – extending the Disney brand to merchandise ranging from apparel, toys and home décor to books and magazines, foods and beverages, stationery, and electronics.

Originally from Co. Meath, Mike moved to the US to attend graduate school. He spent several years as a social worker before transitioning to human resources roles in Pittsburgh, Washington DC and Los Angeles. Mike holds a Bachelor of Social Science from University College Dublin, and Master of Social Work from University of Pittsburgh. He and his husband split their time between Dublin and the Central Coast of California.

He previously served on the boards of IBEC and the American Chamber of Commerce in Ireland.

Mike is a regular commentator in the media on issues relating to long term planning and economic security including renewable energy, transatlantic commercial links and foreign direct investment.

Mike Beary is reappointed with effect from 21 February until 20 February 2028.
